Guest JMW Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 A quick question for you all.... Just how private are PM's ?? i.e. can admin and moderators, if they have need to and just cause, view (undetected to the adressee) the contents of a PM ? It's nothing to do with this board but another one powered by the same software. Cyber - evesdropping - what's next ? Thanks - J
Pete Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 PM's are stored within a specific set of tables in the database. And the tables can, in theory, be viewed via the phpMyAdmin program located on the server, or via a backup downloaded to your PC. But in practice, it's not that easy. Because you have literally thousands of lines of text to wade through. Plus, some of it is caught up in the code, so deciphering it is no easy task. So...yes, they can be read...but only if you want to spend hours doing it. The legal point here, is that once you enter details onto someone's software on their server, those details are then a part of the prog itself. So any Webmaster is within his legal rights to check it if he feels the need.
Guest JMW Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 That's a far reaching bit of info there - thanks. J
fazer6 Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 but being a bunch of bikers if you've time to sit and wade through the wonder that is phpmyadmin then there's something wrong with you. You should be out on the roads instead.
