slipping thunderace clutch

The clutch in fzr/t-ace is a bit on the weak side and is prone to failure at some time. its hovewer quite easy to change and does not cost much. the iron disks rarely needs replacing, its the clutch plates and clutch-basket springs that need replacement. total cost will be around 100€ for plates and springs.

remember to soak the new clutchplates in oil for at least 24h before putting them in. and allways change oil and filter at the same time.

Unfortunately, Yammie clutches are 'always' a bit lame.

They seems to build them to just about cope with the application and give them a bit of wear, abuse or poor maintenance - they start to slip.

The key is the spring pressure, if you combine that with a better friction plate material or source out a bigger plate from another Yam then you will be away.

Example of this would be to use the 1987 FZ750 plates in the RD350YPVS. With the plates alone you get very little extra clutch strength but add in some slightly heavier springs, you get a fantastic clutch that can take a great deal of abuse.

Also, an oil change can make a difference.
