alwayscurious
Hiya chaps & chappettes. First time here in the yamaha Owners Club. Whilst I'm not yet an owner, I am going today to purchase a scooter. I know very little about it - but I do know a) it's about 1970 it's got compression, and the spark plug's still in - no spark however c) it looks OK for it's age d) I'm mechanically apt - so I should be able to get it going Some pics here: and the other side I'm not paying too much for it - the fella just wants to get rid of it. I've done it before -taken a chance. I bought this old dirt bike for $70 and got it up and running, and a classic Kawasaki road bikeand got it up and running on the road. The thing I've found is these types of forums are 100% invaluable!! So with this one - I'd really love to know more about the scooter. Are there sites you can download manuals? Any scooter lovers here willing to share experiences on how to get one running? What about parts for these babies? I'm looking forward to the challenge, and looking forward to 'meeting' a whole bunch of people on this forum. (I often wonder if I'm the only one who registers on multiple forums and does multiple projects accross multiple brands, or whether people are more of a 'I'm a 1 brand kind of guy' thing?) Cheers, AlwaysCurious
Moderator Airhead Posted February 18, 2011 Moderator Share Posted February 18, 2011 Welcome cutious one, no idea about the step through and thats a lovely tree thing that is spoiling the viewing of ...Paul Look at the sunburn on one side...is the sun always in the North down under
alwayscurious
Heheh. Spoiling the view That's probably why the owner wants it gone! Yeah those kinds of Palm trees are pretty common too, so he's probably going to chop that out once the bikes been moved! WRT to the 'sunburn' not sure if that's a dodgy photo or not. Right now I don't care too much. $25 and a new project sounds good to me. ($25 is about 9 British Pound). Sounds like it could be a fun project. If it's something that actually gets running it might be a re-spray job.

alwayscurious
Righto chaps. I found the Frame Number (VIN?) V50-409135 Picked up the bike today: What I noticed so far. Sold in Maryborough QLD! WH Wilcox. Front tyre is 2.25 -17, as is the rear. Has a mikuni Carb. Missing inspection plate off magneto cover. The key takes a B203 , and the frame lock key takes a 203 as well. Could be a CY-80??
Moderator Airhead Posted February 19, 2011 Moderator Share Posted February 19, 2011 How about a V50D ? Look at these images http://classic-motorbikes.net/gallery~Yamaha-V50 http://classic-motorbikes.net/images/gallery/12341.jpg I think they are very rare, you will have a heck of a time trying to source parts

alwayscurious
http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/news/2002/05/20/mate.html Seems in Japan they were still selling this in 2002 (not same model) wonder if the parts were interchangeable?
