V Star 250 overheating and service intervals

Hi, recent new biker and very happy owner of v star 250 (got to start somewhere).

Two questions:

1) What is the service interval? Have looked in pdf of manual and can't find this?

2) Was stuck in traffic on a very hot day for ages recently, could tell bike was much hotter than usual, started not being able to get neutral, just more clunkily and with more effort than usual going straight to second. Also stalled out idling in first. Have read elsewhere that others have experienced this, is there anything I should do (apart from manning up and riding the bike like a bike and keeping moving...)?

Service interval varies depending on the component. There should be info at the back of the Owners Manual.

As for overheating - Weer you unable to filter, then?

Keeping on the move is pretty much the key.

That, or switching the thing off. No harm in clicking into Neutral, switching off and pushing the thing forward the one or two car lengths each time traffic moves a bit. Not like anyone's going anywhere in a rush, are they!!

Assuming that the bike is air cooled, then yes stationary stuck in traffic can cause overheating. If you know you're not going to move for a few minutes, switch off, particularly in a hot climate. Where are you? Will affect the viscosity of the oil and probably clutch operation. Is the Vstar 250 the same as the Dragstar 250? if it is, use the search function to locate the owners manual, you could use the Dragstar 125 manual for service details.

V-Stars and Dragstars are indeed the same beasts. The former being American, latter being everywhere else.

The manuals usually detail all the area-specific variants too, like the Cali emission things.
