firegateyamaha Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Hello all, Well I am new to the forum but am not new to the xs 400 working on my 4th xs now such a good bike and fun to ride. I have recently purchased a new one its a 1980 xs 400 special bike is clean, cleanest i have ever seen only 4208 miles on it everything original but as i was doing some PM work before i started up for the first time oil, plugs, gas, and carbs finished that all up and went to start it, I put the battery in and got the indicator lights to light up right away. Have the bike in neutral and go to hit the start switch and nothing so went to option two kick start kicked it over once and fired right up after sitting for years I was relived. I tried to figure out what was going on with the start button but am not the best on electrical. But what i had tried is took the relay off and bypassed it touched negative to positive and the starter turned right over put the relay back on and did the same thing still good tried to check a couple other things with a jump wire to see if i give one spot power if the other would get it as well and not much luck. So just seeing if any of you guys have any advice to troubleshoot the problem here thanks for any suggestions.
