Removing a Meta alarm from 1998 R1

Hi, I have removed a Meta alarm from my 98 R1 as it has recently failed and I had been unable to unset it with the key fobs. I could reset by counting the led's but this was becoming a real pain. I have reset the remotes in the past via the supplied procedure but this time it just would not reset.

So i decided to remove it and now it will not start or least not stay started, despite me tracing all the wires back into the original loom and re connecting where appeared appropriate.

The thing is it will start up on the starter button BUT as soon as the starter button is released it stops. So if I was to ride along with the starter button pressed it would probably be OK but the starter motor is constantly spinning.

Has anyone got any suggestions on what I have done wrong or can recommend a good mobile electrician who may help?
