hey guys new here, i have a 78 xs400. the carb boot vacuum nipples are connected to each other with tubing that is pinched off. this seems incorrect, anyone care to help? wondering how they should be connected because my idle is rough and my accelaration is nill.

Thanks

They should be blocked off, capped, unless you are using the original vacuum petcock. If you are, one should have a vacuum line to the petcock, the other should be capped. As for your rough idle. Clean the carbs well, then balance them...and you can't balance them if they are connected.

Sorry, I never have. You may want to start a new topic or jump into one that deals with the stator, otherwise, the people who know may not look in this topic.

Good luck!

how do i seperate the stator from the inside of the housing? took out the three screws and it seems like it wont budge.

3 screws inside and 3 on the outside to hold the field coil (they are connected)

the stator coils need a bit of persuasion! ;)
