I have recently acquired an 2000 Yamaha TW125 Trailway, I was told it needed the carb setting up when I bought it and duly booked it in for the work.

When I got it back I was told "he has done his best with it but it really needs a new carb" now it does run a lot better and seems to run up to around 40/50mph fine but when I put it into top gear it slowly starts to slow down (as if fuel is getting restricted) until I have to drop it down gear to build the revs up again.

A. Does this sound like a carb problem ? would hate to track one down and find it does not fix the problem.

B. What carb should I look for to fix it ?

Cheers for reading this and sorry if it's a dumb question but I have very limited knowledge of mechanics.

What milage has the bike done ,,? new carb , , has it a inline fuel filtre,? or petcock filter , ? i know it seems silly but some garages dont give a fk, and take the easy way out , and say

you need a New carb , i doubt this ,,

Cardboard dave that may be the case but why should it slow down, so much so i need to change down to build speed and revs back up?

Cause its a bike made for sand and bogs so it would have low down power more than top end. Like 3k revs max torque or close too. Not a screamer

Oldgitonabike no like i say i have very little knowledge about mechanics so just to his word on it

Ask them anyway, like i said thats a drastic remedy and an expensive one too.

maybe the carb just wants a good clean. If youre not confident get some professional help with that
