well, just thought this may be a good thing to post.

yesterday, my xt500 broke my leg. the kick starter kickback from hell. some how it cracked both my leg bones at my ankle, luckily for me everything is still in the right place and i have avoided surgery for now.

this bike had given me a pretty good wack before, even left me a little bruised, but obviously nothing like this.

so I was hoping some would be able to give me some hints.

is this a malfunction or has the xt550 maimed before? I know that the auto-decompress was working properly because I had just recently had it adjusted and it was doing its job.

has anyone else experienced such a nasty bite from their xt? is this perhaps indicative of a malfunctioning CDI or timing.

to give a bit more history here, i have been experiencing what I thought was carb troubles and have not been able to get the bike started for a few days, in fact the accident happened while working on it. the day it happened i had just cleaned the carb, fixed a leaky seat, and replaced bowl gasket, and had it all set up back to factory settings, however the bike still didn't want to start. I was getting spark, although without a way to really test the spark strength i am not sure how good it was. it would jump a 1/4 inch outside of the engine.

well, even though I won't be kicking that thing for 8 more weeks, i would welcome any help with what might be the problem.

anyone experienced nasty kickback that was actually a precurrsor to someother malfunctions?

take tare with that kickback. i was quite surprised when i came to hauling myself down to the emergency ward.
