hello just thought id say hello i am new to this forum i have a yamaha yb100 deluxe 1988 just wanted to ask if i need a new chain as when i rev it the chain rattles a bit

It's possible, but more likely you need to tension the chain properly. Not sure how to do that on your bike though.

As i recall the YB100 had a fully enclosed chain? How do you know its rattling?

It should be opend periodically and lubricated/tensioned.
