Hello to everyone. New comer new problem :)

I've 2001 XVS650 dragstar classic. She won't start in the morning. No spark at all :( Bump start! And starts. You can ride without any problem. Starts again (electricaly) when you stop as long as cooled down. Bump start required when cooled down.

electric starter is ok. Repleaced with friend's bike starter.

What would be your suggestions?

you could try putting a little oil into the spark plug hole on each cylinder b4 you try and start it (1st thing in the morning) to see if its ur piston rings, if it starts then you know you need new ones. but get a compression check done to double check.

Won't start when it's cold?

Where the hell do you live, that you actually have cold weather at the minute??!!

When it's cold (weather or the bike), I do this:

1/. Yank the choke ALL the way out. Some bikes actually need you to hold it completely open. It's just a characteristic.

2/. Switch on ignition.

3/. Fully open throttle a couple of times.

4/. Press the starter switch and open throttle slightly.

If it's REALLY cold, I may consider turning the idle up a bit as well.

:D:D:D I live in Turkey Ttaskmaster :D:D Temp is 32 C right now.

Cold one is the bike. Not warm yet in other word. Let's put it this way.

There is no ignition or spark AT ALL. I pull out the spark plug cable and checked. Starts electrically after warming up for 10 min. by bump start.

Thanks for the help

Does the starter turn the engine?

If so, how long before it runs the battery down?

If it doesn't crank very long, I would suspect a weak battery.

It may show adequate voltage but amps is what really gets things moving.

At start up, the battery has to supply enough power to run the starter AND the ignition.

Yes

Have not checked. But 5-10 min probably. How long should run??

Battery is brand new. But not Yuasa equavalent

It may show adequate voltage but amps is what really gets things moving.

Voltage of the battery drops to 11.5V not more

Put your battery on 2a/h trickle charge, if you haven't already done so.

They don't come fully charged, but you sound like you may already know this.

Have you checked for blown fuse?

There is some sort or relay in the electrical system that puts the headlamp out while the starter is engaged. Have any of your electrical items been recently disconnected?

Could it be a weak coil?

All I can imaging is that somehow the system is disabling the ignition while the starter is engaged.
