Good, bad, indifferent? Most of them are perceived as being fascist bully boys with a humour bypass and strange moustaches. Just wondered if this is a generalisation or if those who slate them have been aggrieved in some way by them? This could be contentious and please remember this is a family show. Over to you....

I dont know most of them but I imagine its a fair assumption. I think they dont like bikers in the main anyhow so it seems to work both ways, look at north Wales for example

I find propper traffic cops great, as long as you aren't taking the p!$$. If you are OK with them, they are (or have been with me) pretty good.

If you take a BikeSafe course, you will see a different side to them.

Normal 'wooden tops' are a very different breed. They have either no intrest, or are budding 'traffic cops' out to get as many traffic infringments as they can. I've found that these guys have inferior understanding of the Road Traffic Act (in the UK), or even the Highway Code (UK). I was once stopped by one of these guys for 'overtaking on the zigzags at a crossing'*. Lucky for me I had the Highway Code with me (having just finished an IAM session), he still insisted he was right but decided to give me a warning and let me go.

* - Overtaking on the Zigzags is only an offence if you overtake the vehicle that has stopped to let a pedestrian cross. Remembering that the second vehicle has stopped because of traffic conditions.

I find the driving standards of most Police officers falls way short of what I call acceptable.

On balance - I'm OK with the guys on Traffic. They have a wealth of experience and knowledge, if you ask them (without being an arse) then you will be rewarded. In my neck of the woods anyway.

That's interesting. Traffic officers undergo extensive advanced driving courses and have to undertake a three week road traffic law course to learn the finer points of traffic law, however it is most 'wooden tops' who undertake reinforcing most of the minor traffic stuff in our towns & cities due to the lack of traffic bods. It is a training issue no doubt, but a lot of it comes down to the sort of person they are.

Proper Traffic - good guys (mostly), react well to intelligent, reasoned comments but will drop on you like a ton of bricks if you come across as a bellend. BikeSafe and a few escorted charity runs shows up their human side and gives an insight into how to deal with them properly.

Town clowns with an eye on targets - avoid where possible, but give them the full "Yes sir, no sir" if pulled over.

Any bike cop who can take this in the spirit it was meant is OK in my books:

Dunno - Never been pulled. Ever.

I was DAS'ed up by a former Police MC instructor and I have chatted with the Bikesafe chaps a few times at Fox's and Boxhill. Not a single bad word to say about them!!

well the police shows that show about traffic police dont do them justice ive never come across one yet(touch wood never do) as they have been seen as nazis of the road lol and let no victims go well not without giving them a nice fine+points but i guess it all comes down to the attitude test and if you pass it lol.

Proper traffic cops, spending the time i do on our highways and byways and seeing the amount of blood and scrap they witness i think they are pretty tolerant tbh.

The townies i will agree are just plods who want to stay in a nice warm car with a coffee intead of walking with the muggles. And as gas said their driving is rubbish considering what they represent.
