pepperami
always the last bits of doing a bike up that cause the most grief! so close yet so far..... in getting that elusive MOT everything else seems to be in working order on this XS400 (fingers crossed) but the indicators have now decided to only work when the revs are over 2500rpm? and i am having a similar problem with my little Honda CG125 (6V model) do you guys have any tips please! do the relays deteriate with age? are the new transistorised/digital ones any better/more reliable? can any of you make any recomendations about makes/brands of new relays? i`m not going to buy Honda/Yamaha originals, as they will cost 5-6 times the price of a patten part
pepperami
Guess you guys dont have much trouble with your flasher relays! took the old one off the Yam : it "looked old and grimy" , when i gave it a little shake, you could hear the internals moving about? so i replaced it with another that is only twenty years old, rather than thirty years old. better but not perfect Took it for a short spin today (500 yards of private driveway, not mine i might add) to go through the gears, and try the brakes , seems good

The relays do tire with age, the main issue though is the earth path back to the battery and the strength of the battery. You could try running lines to the front and rear of the bike via a decent battery connection making sure its charged fit to pop (and being NEW doesent count still needs charging) and earthing the indicators direct to this. It did the trick with a gp100 i had till a trip down the road removed 2 of em and they never went back.
