Mirrors

Hi all, this might be a FAQ but are aftermarket/custom mirrors universal? I mean do you buy the mirror and it fits to the rod that comes from the handle bars? The bike in question is a XVS 125.

For the Dragstars, the mirrors have to be yamaha or mirrors that are attached the opposite way other bikes attach mirrors. I can't remember if its just for one side or both. But basically you're better off buying yamaha mirrors, or talking to someone in the shop just to make sure. Why do they make 'em like that? My guess would be to make more money.

you can get thread converters so you can attach normal mirrors. and its because yammaha like you to buy their accessories and not aftermarket ones

What so you mean one side has opposite threads?

One side is reverse threaded for the reason of....???? Pretty much any aftermarket mirrors for cruisers/metric bikes come with thread converters so they'll fit. For a better idea look at some sites such as alchemy bikes, custom wizards (google) etc to see what mirrors are available.

Yamaha Customs have a reverse thread on the left side.

Reason being - When you ride at high speeds, the wind will push the mirror back toward you.

If the left one had a standard thread, this wind pressure would actually loosen it, the stem would rotate and your left mirror view would be of your own head.

The reverse thread is a very simple and efficient solution.

Ahhh, never knew that. Sounds like a good way to solve that problem.
