2stroke ray
Hi, my dtr 2001 gets to 60mph 7500rpm and then is a struggle to get the revs any higher or more speed. I have had 75mph out the bike down hill with the wind behind me, but am thinking that the reed switch in the speedo is limiting the revs anything past 60 ??? Any Help ? 2stroke ray
Vez
The reed switch restricts your speed to 60ish mph, but i have read that removing it completely can cause problems (i.e cutting it out), so the way to solve this is to move it away from the speedo face. "The speed is restricted by means of a reed switch which is mounted in the rear of the speedo. It tells the CDI when the bike reaches 60mph and stops the revs from increasing. To remove the speedo restriction take off the headlamp cowl and pull out the spring clips holding the speedo in. Then unscrew the speedo cable and lift up the clock. You will see two things in the bottom of the clock casing. One is round and is the light bulb for the clock, the other is white and oblong. This is the reed switch and you carefully prise it out and tuck it to one side out of the clock. I suggest you put it in a bag and tuck it as far away as possible. Do not cut or disconnect it. DONT CUT THE REED SWITCH OFF just pull it out wrap it in cling film with a little vaseline and tape it up dont cut it and just undo the 2 side bolts that hold the front cowl on as it holds the speedo in place to get to it at the back looks like a fuse but be gentle, also there is a site that show you hold to cut back the air intake email me and i will show you
