HELP!

Just installed a new set of mikuni RS racing carbs onto my 1981H xs1100 and the bike is back firing through the carbs. A recent restore and never heard the bike run, but it turns over well. I've checked the timing chain tensioner and it appears to be fine. I also opened up the case and accessed the timing mechanism and it doesn't look like either diagram in the OEM service manual. It doesn't have an F designation on the timing plate or the timing degree hash marks. It has a T and a C on the plate and a 4R0-10 designation stamped on the plate. Does anyone know how this is suppose to be timed? This bike was abandoned in a barn for 14 years and I've worked the past year and would really like to hear it run. The racing carbs were $1100 so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Kevin

you sure those carbs are correctly jetted for the bike?

too rich or lean can have the same effect your describing

standard jetting is;

1981 SH/LH mains=110(1&4)& 120(2&3) pilot=42.5 start jet=25 main air=140 pilot air=185 throttle valve=135 on a Mikuni BS34-II

if you don't get many replies i can direct you to http://www.xs11.com/forum/ as they are the specialists for the marque

cheers
