82 virago 920 front cylinder not firing

my 1982 yamaha virago 920's front cylinder will only fire when the choke is fully on. i just rebuilt the carbs, and am having this problem now. i have looked in the manual and have double checked my work on them several times. it seems like the cylinder is not pulling fuel yet the carb is getting fuel. i can't figure out why. as soon as i unchoke it the engine tries to idle but dies shortly thereafter. can anyone help me please?
