Hi all from a new kid on the block, please be gentle with me if I,m wordy. My daughter has a 250 Dragstar which she described as "needing a bit more grunt". I've hunted high and low online for tuning tips without success. Its a nice little bike, (coming just inside the power to weight for a newbe who isn't the tallest thing on two wheels and cheap to insure). In despiration I went back to the old days when we used to get rid of all the air filters to let the engine breathe. I didn't want to butcher the exhaust or get into major re-carbing. More recent bikes are a bit more sophisticated that the old Amal carb days so I thought a K&N filter would help; but when I stripped down the air box there was a rubber thingy between the two black plastic bits, so out it came and hey presto...bike starts sweetly, pulls much better and is quite happy pulling up our local Dartmoor hills with dear daughter and me (bit of a middle aged lardy arsed wind sock) on board; and the usually muted exhaust sounds more purposful as well. Seems like a quick fix to me and has turned a bit of a sluggish bike into a fun ride. I am sure there are many of you out there who know much more about these bikes than me so if anyone knows of a problem with what I have done...PLEASE LET ME KNOW cos I don't want to knacker the bike cos she will kill me. I've got hold of a 125 airbox and the rubber "restricter" is even worse...more poke for a 125??? Obviously I can't comment on the legality of a learner doing this....
