There is a critical difference between the ignition systems between 78 and 81. The cdi units on the earlier bikes use 2 coils on the stator and a 7 wire cdi the later bikes use 1 coil and have 6. Its a red one thats deleted. It isn't a problem so long as the stator and the cdi match, you can add the extra wire in there if you need it.
