up.yours
You want to take the chance that Royal Fail won't lose it? Yeah, it could be resolved in writing, but Failure To Display is still a crime. You get ample notification for when it expires, so you should never be without it. You can drop into a Post Office or DVLA office and get it there and then. Takes an average of 4 minutes, plus queueing time. But hey - Your choice, peeps. [/quote/] hmmm , arnt laws made for braking,or is that a miss comsumption?
Moderator Cynic Posted February 10, 2010 Moderator Share Posted February 10, 2010 I'd sooner be saving my luck for blasting through my fav set of bends than getting nicked when i'm buying a paper on the way to work. We all play a little game with the law, pushing just a little. But giving them the boots to kick you with is just stupid.

up.yours
in that case taxing your car/bike over the phone or on line is pointless ,in your opinion, but hundreds of thousands of folk may disagree.and like me drive with no disc until it arrives in the post. It's only pointless if you leave it to the last minute. As said in previous posts you get a months advanced warning. You can do it on line from your own home at anytime of the day without having to wait in a queue for a recorded voice to say "cashier number four please"

Personally i think its brilliant, the nearest post office to me is open for a random 3 minutes sometime between Monday and Friday excluding, Wed af noon, Tues Af noon and if the post is heavy any time in between because its the postie who mans the post office. So doing it online is bloody marvelous, generally turns up day or two later as well.
pilninggas
this should settle it! "As a result, from the 1st of September 2008, those buying their vehicle tax online, by phone or by post will be able to legally continue to drive their vehicles for up to 5 days while they wait for their new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply where the new tax disc has been applied for before the current one expires and motorists should continue to display the expired disc on their vehicle, until the new one arrives." http://www.dvla.gov.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/280808_09.aspx http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/information/InfoCentre/ItemDetails.aspx?sid=936#4 ...oops these links have gone dead, i'lll see if i can find newer ones! this is it: http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/pressoffice/pressreleases/archive2008/280808_09.aspx

So not legal. Funny how a one poster has got a thread going this far.

Ttaskmaster
Taxes still aren't certain - if you order by phone, you're still relying on Royal Fail to deliver it in time!!
