97 dt frame with 02 engine

I have just bought myself a dt 125r with a 97 frame and an 02 motor. I have had a week now and only been on it a couple of times due to the weather but it doesn't seem to have the instant power that it should.

I've had a look at the power valve and it seems to have been disconnected, all the wires and cables have been either ripped out or disconnected which run from the bars to the engine.

I'm really needing to get the power valve back on the go cos without it the bike is dead slow.

I'm wondering if there is a way that i can hook up the power valve so that it always has power seeing as i have no keys to start my bike nor do i have a kill switch, it's a kick and off you go.

Any suggestions would be great or am i just going to be wasting my time??

Hmm, so i take it its a field bike? Probably the best option is to fix the powervalve in the open position.

Give DTR125.co.uk a look they have lots of info on the powervalve and how you can work it.

Yeah it's a field bike bike, went along to my local bike dealer today and he was telling me that i should get a wiring loom and a battery and reconnect it.

Was speaking to my brother too and he has a friend of a friend who has his on electrician business and works on the police motors and he could maybe sort it out for me.

Got the bike dead cheap so not to bothered about spending a bit of cash on it as i will def get it back, bike only cost me £250 or so, swapt it for my ps3 and £100 and apart from the power valve and needing a little tidied up it's a good wee bike... cracking deal, it's worth around £400 or so but the guy i bought it from was wanting rid of it as it hadn't been used in months.

No problem, its as certain as the sun coming up tommorow that without a battery and a sound electrical system the PV will be worse than useless. If its a field bike surely having the PV wide open for that genuine motocross kick in the arse is best.

Yeah going to have a good look at it tomorrow, checked out the dtr hope page you suggested and it's looking really useful.. thanks for that.

Yeah went to two bike dealers today and the first guy said that i should just turn the valves to off but that's no bloody use i want to get the bike going faster no going bloody slower.

Yeah so tomorrow the mission is to try and as you say open the valve right open and see if that improves things, it should like, also going to be changing the front sprocket to 13 teeth or so, i'll lose the top end speed but in fields and the like and im not really going to be needing to be going flat out, just won't it to be quick.

I'll get there and post up my finding incase anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

My brother has a kmx and wouldn't have these problems as it's just a cable that works it.

Can't complain for the price i got the bike at.....Yeeeeeeeeeehaw

Looks like i am going to have to take it to someone who knows what their doing unless anyone has any ideas what it could be? The bike runs fine just as i say lack of power.

When you turn the PV round the bottom end power will be non existent, but when u get to around 7-8000 rpm it kicks in. Best bet is to take the exhaust off and make sure the pv is fully open (you can feel it through the port), as it is very easy to get it the wrong way and leave it closed, which would result in a low power feel. Also if you leave the servo motor on then the PV could quite easily slip back to the closed position, would be advisable to take the servo off (send it to me :P ) and get an end cap for the hole that remains.

Or get the servo wired up correctly, then you get the low down power as well! Personally for off-road i would leave it fully open.

The price you got the bike for sounds cheap, very cheap! :unsure:
