Posted November 17, 200915 yr hi,newbi here. i have a 535 virago,and while i dont know much about carbs, iam fed up with mine! it can be cleaned,and then if i leave the bike to stand for more than a wk,its a pig! i have seen on the virago tech site,which seems to be mostly american, a manifold conversion into one carb, the manifold is simple to make, but i dont know which carb to get? has anyone tried,or done this?

ATB J hi josh, it starts ok,no probs,but runs flat,and when you go to open her up its just got no response, then after about a day or two of no more than 35 mph! it seems to be ok,then later,after a few days,same thing happens? i know it poss the carbs,but would like to try a single coversion, seems less hastle and think the service parts would be a lot cheaper, 60 quid for a carb slide!

Does your bike have the heater elements to stop carb icing? I take it you have stripped, cleaned and checked the carbs. Unless you can get in contact with someone who has experience of this conversion you could spend a lot of time and money sorting jetting etc. ATB J

November 23, 200915 yr Electric elements were fitted by Yamaha to the '535 to stop carb icing which DOESN'T just effect them in very cold weather. Damp cold days also bring it on. My first '535, a 1990 didn't have them and that suffered from carb icing. My second 1994 (?) model did. Its two electrical connections - one to each carb. Easily seen. ATB J
