sdthomas
I have a 1980 DT 175. The kick start was slipping and I tried everything I could think of to tighten it. I did not want to pay the $75.00 for a new one. I went to a bike boneyard and found another one for a few bucks and put it on. It still slipped so I figured the shaft was the problem. I have a welder so I welded it on to the shaft. Now to my suprise, I have ruined something else. Oh well, this is kinda how my life has gone so far. But anyways, I believe what I did was fry the oil seal. It seems to be leaking from the oposite side of the kick starter( The left Side) maybe where the spocket comes out. Anyone replaced the kick starter shaft and the oil seals in a DT 175? P.S. I only ride it hunting once or twice a year so I can add oil and I am still in good shape. sdthomas
I have found the oil seal for 10 bucks. I just don't know how to pull the old one off. I have changed oil seals in brake drums and I have whacked them off with a screw driver. then I put the new seal in with a pipe approximatly the same size as the new seal and tapping it till it goes in. Anyone every done this before?
