daydozer
Hello everyone, Normally just a lurker, now a first time register/poster . I have a 1980 XS400 Special II that is in great condition and has 9k miles on it. Recently the original headlight died and I was unable to procure another original. I bought the aftermarket headlight kit and installed a standard bulb. Everything worked ok for a while, so its possibly unrelated. My brake light gets stuck on, my pilot section lights (neutral, blinker, oil), blinkers, horn, and headlight do not work. If I vibrate the engine by revving it up the will occasionally come back on. Should I be looking at grounds? I've checked all the visible grounds I could find and they seem ok? I've read other threads with similar issues but havent been able to correlate anything yet. duaneage
Check the diode that turns on the headlight relay. Also look at the stator wires and see if they are damaged. One leg of the stator powers the headlight relay through a small diode that is taped into the wiring harness above the engine. IF it is bad you can replace it with one from radio shack. Get a schematic for the bike (available on line, look around) and you will see it.
