Hi

Decided to clean my exup valve cause I'm having power problems. The cables were really slack and the alignment was off, but rather than just tightening them and relaligning I decided to strip the valve and clean it properly and lub with copaslip etc.

However when I took the cover off the valve plate bolts were so corroded it looks like it has never been cleaned (had the bike 5 months).

Consequently the bracket that hangs the cables crumbled. Can't see anyone just selling the valve cover so it looks like I'm going to have to replace the downpipes and valve, the downpipes are very corroded too.

Ive heard the bike will run with the valve left fully open, but does anyone know how this will affect the bikes performance?

I've seen stainless downpipes on ebay and the ad says they replace the exup system and improve performance, but the £200 the guy wants is not an option at the moment.

Any advise / options is appreciated!

Cheers, Rich

Just had a look at a parts catalogue for a 1993 FZR1000 and it shows the cable bracket and cover as seperate parts so it might be worth speaking to your local Yamaha dealer and get them to see if its the same on a FZR400RR and see if the parts are still available .Tony.

Cheers Tony

ordered one today from a dealer, 7 quid pretty good...or so I thought, the three valve cover bolts were ridiculously corroded and need drilling out. I've been at it all day and there is no way they are coming out. Ive drilled bolts out before but these must be made out of some 20 year old japanese super steel. Looks like i'll need replacement downpipes/valve anyway.
