barwell1992 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i have just changedmy indicators but they fuse keeps blowing because the watage of the bulbs is to high i do have 10w bulbs on order but for the time been can i use a higer amp fuse as when i use the indicators it blows and the rear light dosent work apart from when breaking so i i put a 15amp or 20amp fuse in there will it work or will somthing else blow ? so from a 10amp - 15 or 20 amp fuse the fuse controls rear light, number platelight and front and back indicators the indicators front and back are the same and all have 21w bulbs in atm but have 10w's on order as i sead so will it work or will it damage somthing elso other wise i will have to use my arms for now
wild foamy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 yes it will work, but keep an eye on your wiring as the loom may not be designed to carry the higher current,
barwell1992 Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 ok well decided not to risk it, while i was out i presed the indiactors buy accident and it blew straightaway so i have repalced it again and added a nice accesorie as in some gafertape over the indicatore switch

Indicators 2*21w lamps plus a bit for the relay and losses say 50w on a 12v system thats 4 amps give or take. Indicators 2*10w lamps plus a bit for the relay and losses say 30w on a 12v system thats 2.5 amps give or take. See my point, you have blown a 20, i repeat BLOWN a 20 amp fuse that needs in the region of 100+ amps. You have a dead short in the indicator system somewhere and it needs to be found.

I can't believe this, all the shit you have had to put up with recently, chucking the bike down the road, fixing it up and you get a shitty on cos of a flat.???

Moderator Airhead Posted August 14, 2009 Moderator Posted August 14, 2009 like cynic says, two indicators at 21watts will take around 3.5 Amps so back light and indicator relay have 6.5 Amps for them, to blow straight away does suggest something is shorted, time to get the multimeter out, by the way have you tried the indicators left and right?

Regards Jim
barwell1992 Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 checked it all out and its 11amp so thats y its blowing so with the 10w bulbs its almost half
JimR Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 checked it all out and its 11amp so thats y its blowing so with the 10w bulbs its almost half in a word nope .. if the bulb wattage is changed you will get either a faster or slower flash depending on which way you went if the circuit is correct (or perhaps just a ticking noise dependant on how far the bulbs are away from the can, but with modern cans that tend to adjust their flash rate irrespective of the bulbs connected I would guess thats not a problem. Just check out the wires a bit more Regards Jim
Moderator Airhead Posted August 14, 2009 Moderator Posted August 14, 2009 checked it all out and its 11amp so thats y its blowing so with the 10w bulbs its almost half whats 11 amp? just the indicators without the rear light? if the rear light is connected the lions share of current is going there so 10w bulbs wont make it half
barwell1992 Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 thats with rear light and 4x 21w indicators
Moderator Airhead Posted August 14, 2009 Moderator Posted August 14, 2009 thats with rear light and 4x 21w indicators Dan, youre getting confusing now, are you blowing fuse @11 amps with hazaard warning (4 indicators) + rear light on? I thought you were blowing fuse with direction indicator on
barwell1992 Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 its blowing when indcators are on and rear light and not hazard lights im thinking the rear light is shorting and yup was geting confused will stip the lights and indicators off to moz i have already done the fronts just need to do the back and the rearlight
