so i own a 1982 yamaha maxim 750. love the thing to death but im having some problems, like for starters, i cant get it to go past 35mph right now, and i have to run it with the choke partially on, and when i apply the throttle i cant twist it more then 1/8th of the way before the bike stops picking up speed, whats going on?

Sounds like its running very lean.

Try cleaning your carbs, and check you jetting / mixture screws.
