Rudi Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Been reading up on it, most say its a restrictor but some complained that they had lost a few mph off their top speed once they had cut it off, has anybody got a real picture of what the intake manifold actually looks like with the 'restrictor' still attached? All i have to go by is the amatuer drawing on dtr125.net, is it possible that this is to help the air-flow not restrict it OR maybe the people who removed it lost power because it was a restrictor but now their bike is running too lean and all they need to do is upjet the feel the benefits, can anyone help me to make the decision to cut it off or leave it be?
wild foamy Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 going by the diagram i would say that the cone on the end of the intake is to restrict the air flow into the engine, removing it would increase the airflow and most likely require an up-jetting to compensate and prevent the bike running lean
Rudi Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 going by the diagram i would say that the cone on the end of the intake is to restrict the air flow into the engine, removing it would increase the airflow and most likely require an up-jetting to compensate and prevent the bike running lean Yes i have several bigger jets on the way, im going to order a pre 2000 manifold and fit that(because they are made without the extra rubber piece) then remove the snorkel off the airbox then upjet to compensate for the increase in air flow, once all this is done and tested i will post my results and opinions for anyone who needs them in the future.
DTXracer Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 i had a look at doing this to mine but really couldn't be arsed TBH 100MPH was fast enough for me and when i beat a ST focus off the lights i was happy enough
daviebhoy31 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I done this to mine a few month ago it improved throttle responce (nothing major) but its a very simple job just pop the carb off and its on the left hand side undo the four bolts then you will see a square bit sticking out this is the bit to be cut away then shave the inside edges to make it more circle like them pop back on . you might as well give your reeds a little clean aswell . but i noticed a bigger improvement when the exaust was de restricted at the flange end there is a small peice of pipe that needs taking out cost me £20 at a local garage
