How to derestrict a Yamaha DT125X

I bought a 2004 (54 plate) Yamaha Dt125X (the supermoto one) and I am wanting to fully derestrict it. I have had a full DEP exhaust fitted to it, which has made a difference. I have been looking on the net, especially www.dtr125.net and it says to cut the green and black wire that goes into the speedo. I when through the wires and found the 4 pin connecting block (the 1 with 4 wires going in and only 3 coming out) and cut and earthed the Green and brown wire to the frame, I did the green and brown wire as there was no green and black wire. Firstly I did the end that comes from the loom which made no difference so then I tried the other end (Speedo end of the wire I cut) which just seemed to put on the red engine temp light, still which no gains in speed so I just reconnected the two ends and left it for now.

Am I just an idiot and got the wrong wire or does this mod not actually do anything???

Please, any help on which wire/wires it is would be a massive help.

Regards Triky

Hi,

I've also got DTX and passed my test today. So got home and derestricted it straight away :)

From the back of the speedo follow the wire to where it clips into the loom. Unclip it and see which of the wires coming from the bike doesn't connect to anything. Pull that out of the plastic clip, earth to the frame and you're done. The wire on mine was black and greeny/blue, guess yours will be the same.

It's all very well derestricting Bikes, but remember to inform your insurance company or you will probably find that the insurance company will not pay out if they discover it had been "modified". Not only will they not pay out, you will have been riding without insurance which is a criminal offence.

If a Bike is subject to a claim and an insurance assesor checks the Bike the game is up, they specialise in getting out of paying claims, they are not a charity organisation.

And if you injure, kill, or leave someone permanently disabled you may fing you are paying for their care for life if you are deemed to be uninsured.

Sorry to be a kiljoy, but it's better to inform your insurance company than pay possibly a few million in compensation should it all go badly wrong.

The biggest mistake is to think "it can't happen to me".
