Bruce Graham Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Hi Guys, got my motorbike bug back but not in a situation where I can buy the bike I want WR 250 or 400. So i decided to go back to mum and dads and dig out the old IT 175. I have it in bits just waiting on a flywheel puller this afternoon. From memory (been about 10yrs) it kept jumping out of 2nd gear. Once apart what should I look for.??? Also where the exhaust attaches to the cylinder head is very loose, is there something i can add in there like a heat proof putty type substance to help get a better seal as when water splashes up there it ran very rough for a while. As i pull it down i may need to ask a few more questions. Thanks Bruce
wild foamy Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 okay mate jumping out of second could indicate a worn detent plunger, this was and still is the case with my DT where it will occasionally pop into neutral, this should not require dismantling as the detent screws into the top of the gearbox casing (atleast it does on my DT) Exhaust sealents are available from any good garage or auto repair specialist, "Gun gum" is a very popular product, simply remove the exhaust, smear the putty around the part you want to seal and re-install the rough running when wet could indicate a worn plug cap and/or HT lead allowing water to get into the electrics and short them out, replace the plug cap and HT lead see if it makes a difference

I have split the crankcase and found one of the gears is missing a tooth, so i will try and source another one of those and have a good look as i found pieces of metal floating around in there so something has broken somewhere. Hopefully i can find my old workshop manual. Bruce
