hi,

im hoping someone here can help me,just today i became the owner of a yam xs750 special a us custom, being raised with sports bikes i know little about the bike i just bought and unfortunatly it didnt come with a users handbook.

the problem im having is getting it started,i saw the bike running the night before when i went to see the bike but trying to start it today ive had mega problems, the engine turns but doesnt fire up,like i need some choke for a cold start, problem is how does the choke work?,i pull the lever out on the carb all the way and turn the engine but it still didnt start, i tried so often i maybe run the battery down too much,i tried with the kickstart and again pulled the lever out and kicked it over after 6 or 7 times it did fire up but unless you keep your hand on the throttel the engine will stop as its cold,it doesnt seem to make a differance if you let the throttel go and pull the choke lever out as it doesnt seem to speed the engine in any way to keep it running!

does anyone know anything about these bikes,is there a procedure of starting a cold engine on them and im doing something wrong?

might sound silly but im a bit stuck im used to bikes with a choke lever you turn into posistion start your engine and then turn them off as you bike warms up but on the xs750 its all alien.

any help apprisiated,thanks

I think it will need a service.

did the bike respond and tick over well when you last saw it running?

hi,

the bike had a full service last month and was running fine on tickover yesterday when the bike had been run, sounds a bit silly but i know nothing about these bikes was just looking for another bike and liked its look, phoned the seller and he cant understand it as he says she fires first time with the choke on,where is the choke on this bike?,im pulling out a flat metal lever left side of the bike, lever pulls out to a "nipple" stopping it being pulled any further but when let go it flips back again, its not like it stays open,i suppose i have got the choke or is it somewhere else, ive not seen this design before am i looking at the right thing....HELP :o

that does sound like the choke, but it shouldn't flip back, so it sounds like the little ball bearing and spring has been lost (it holds the choke bar in 3 postitons) hold it out with a clothes peg and then try and start it, then let it off when warm ed up

I do like the look of the xs750's but the roadster version

drewps
