hi all, my names chris, just signed up.

bought myself a tzr125 4dl model last week and ive had some trouble with it, so i thought id find a forum to get some help if ud all be so kind.

i was letting the bike run up b4 work havin a cup of tea and a fag and the bike bogs out and dies for no reason and would not start. now ive checked all the basics, fuel (although the tank isnt letting any fuel through the run outlet, the reserve works fine thou so i plan to use that for time being) spark, compression and as far as i can tell its getting oil.

when checking the spark plug it was pretty black and oily so i cleaned it up with a wire brush and put it back in, the bike started agen 1st time no probs, but after running for 30 seconds bogged and died agen.

i took it to a neighbour to see what he thought, after cranking it once and hearing a nasty noise from the starter, told me it was terminal and to either get rid of it or find a new engine.

could this be as simple as over oiling? or does the fact the starter wont turn the engine mean somethings shagged inside and needs a new top end?

these are vague details i know but im wondering if any1 else has had a similar problem with theirs and possible causes/fixes

thanks all, chris.

What is the mileage, certainly appears that the plug is fouling with oil. Could be rebuild time.

nah chokes off, checked that already.

without looking at it im not too sure wot the milage is (at "work" atm) but its about 15k miles. but to be fair it doesnt look like this bikes been well looked after. rad was only half full when i got it, had some oil in the exspansion tank (some numpty obviously lost the cap at some point and put a "engine oil" cap on instead), dodgy ass electrical work on it and its been dropped mebe more than once. u could b right about rebuild time but i wont know untill friday afternoon when my old man and his mate help me strip it down to have a look.

ill send a post with wot i know asap

cheers lads

first check if it turns the engine without the spark plug because if it does when there is no spark plug in and doesn't when its in then the keyway is probably broke. i also have a 4dl.then when its running try putting the choke on and wait for it to warm up abit then ride it till its at a decent temp to get into the powervalve in all gears to burn away any oily deposits. hope this helps mate
