Posted June 30, 200915 yr Hello Everyone, My names, Gene. I'm a newb at restoring classic bikes. Just picked up a 81" xs400. It doesn't run, but I only paid $200 so... Everything looks like its still there. It hasn't been registered since 1986! Well anyways, my plans are to cafe it out. In my cafe'ing efforts, I'd like to change out the stock rims to 18" spokes all around. What should I be looking for that would be compatible? I am also looking for a good place to buy a longer gas tank w/ knee indentations, a rear seat replacement, and clip-ons. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am planning to tear the bike down to the frame and slowly restore one section at a time. Thanks, Gene P.S I'll post some pictures asap.

July 1, 200915 yr Moderator tank shop has a bad rep due to long waits for the tank to be made. there was a dude in aussy, who has old ducati tanks which look great and have the knee indents, can't find the link though

July 4, 200915 yr Did you ever find anything out about the spoked rims? I'm the process of rebuilding an 81 xs400 into a cafe/rat racer. I'd like to throw on a set of spoked wheels from a 77 xs650, but not sure if the 18" rear wheel will work w/o any swing arm modification.
July 6, 200915 yr I need to get a set of those rear sets to preserve my back. I put my feet on the back pegs on the highway to stay comfortable. I like those Raaske ones but can't find where to order them. Help?
