monkeyjason
When I ease of the accelerator, I get a nasty metallic rattle coming from the left side, now I'm not massively technical but I think that's not good right? any ideas?

Before condeming anything I would check the obvious first - Exhaust crown nut downpipe to silencer joint engine mounting and other nuts and bolts Chain tension Crankcase bolts! etc etc Make sure everything is tight before assuming it's inside the crankcase. Left hand crankcase holds the generator points etc if you take off the gearchange lever and remove the cover you can check the condition of the bearings by seeing if there is any movement in the generator flywheel - although I would expect the bearings to complain when they are under load (accelerating) not decelerating. DO you get a rattle on tick over? Keep us posted.
