Hi all.

On my R125 the other day, I was going along a smooth flat road, and as I coasted along (with only my right hand on the handlebars) I took my weight off the bar, as many do.

Fortunately I had my hand still resting very lightly on the handlebars, as all of a sudden the front end started to wobbly VERY violently, with the bars vibrating from side to side.

Could this be down to front wheel balance, or a sign of a bearing going, or perhaps something more serious?

The front tyre has been on since new, and done about 12,500 miles. It's due for a change soon, probably next week as it has less than 2mm of tread now, but before taking it in I wanted to see if anyone else has resolved a similar problem, I'm guessing this applies to pretty much any bike out there!

Thanks

James.

Hi James

Ive had that before. Scary when unexpected. New tyre/s (get a matching set) and get the front wheel balanced when fitted. As long as there is no steering head movement at the yoke (you would be getting juddering under breaking) I can't see that being the prob. Any bike should run straight and true with both hands off. I actually had the same problem on my first YZ 80 dirtbike. Scared the heck out of me. I'm new to street bikes but my problem was a tear inside the actual tire. You couldn't see anything from the outside but it tore inside. When we put a new tire on it stopped

If your tyre pressure is incorrect that may cause wobbleness, or maybe one of these;

Stiff front shock(which can cause speed wobble)

front wheel spindle out by a mm

to much weight on one side

if the wheel is unbalanced it will probably pull you to one side

if it happens again dab your back brake gently and stop acclerating.

hope this helps

It is important to find out what has happened to your bike.

Check all of the front including the head bearings and then start looking at the back. Check the swing arm bearings and wheel etc.
