Guest bobbyo Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Hello folks I have just taken ownership of my 1st Yamaha - a 1993 YZF750R. Lovely so far but dodgy colour! The manual is suggesting 20W40 from 5 degrees plus or 10W30 for up to 15 degrees. As my riding will go both below and above these temperatures, wouldn't a 10W40 be better as it covers all ranges of temperature? I hesitate to buy it as it isn't recommended by the book! What do you good folk use in your YZF's for good all year round use. Thanks, Bobby.
junker Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 i use 10W-40 in my FZ600. Make sure it is for motorcycle grade, though. Regular car oil will not go over so well. I further suggest trying Yama-Lube. Made specifically for Yamahas, it is a little pricey ($8/US Qt.) but the bike only need like 2 Qts...
Guest bobbyo Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Thanks for your tips guys. A good quality 10W40 has been purchased.
