I recently bought a XS400. The first time i rode it oil started pouring out of my alternator housing. Upon further inspection there is a pea sized hole in the crankcase leading to the alternator. Im sure that isnt suppose to be there, but maybe is this a design of yamahas as the hole seems uniform and machined? Any help or comments would be appriciated. thanks

yep, its supposed to be there. that's why there is a gasketed cover on the end.

It only pours out on side stand (i know from experience) with the cover missing, so timing etc on main stand is no problem
