hi, ive just aquired a 2004 tzr 50, the bike is unrestricted and hits an indicated 60 - 64mph, has any one got any technical details for this bike such as sizes of main jets etc, i want to put the standard air box back on as it has a cone filter, will the standard box kill it and what size jet might i need, cheers

its top-end and pickup will be slightly reduced but not drastically.

if it already has the standard (unmodified) exhaust then you shouldn't need to rejet, however, if the exhaust has been replaced by a sports can or has had the restrictors drilled out then you will possibly need to go down a jet size but do a plug chop after you fit the standard airbox and see how you go with that

I was getting 58 on flat and up to 65 down hill but I have not done anything to tune mine up. If you want to go faster put a larger front sprocket on the front try a 13tooth sprocket and 46-48 tooth on back. You will go faster but your bike will not accelerate as well. I have a 12 tooth sprocket on mine

hi tzr92, thanks for the info , ive put the airbox back on and as expected it runs quite bad so i will have to take the carb off and change the main jet, can you recommend any where on the net to get main jets also my tail can has "hand made v6" written on it so the tail can is not standard, once again thanks for the help, i shall post updates as and when they happen

help any one, ive put the standard air box back on with a size 92 main jet, the bike will not go with more than half throttle however if i pull the choke out then it does run better, this suggests to me that it is running weak ?? are there any restrictions in the air box i should know about, any one got any ideas please

Apparently there is restrictors in the airbox but when I got my bike they were already removed. Just open it up and have a look.

Try adjusting the mixture screw. If that doesnt work then try raising the needle on the throttle cable that goes into the carb. Tis will richen the mixture.

Not sure what i should be but mine is as high as it can go because my bike is not going properly, I can go full throttle but when I put my choke on it pulls better. I need to put my choke on to make it go better. I think I must have a air leak in my crankcase.

Have you checked if your main jet is clean?

hi paul thanks for the info, not sure how the tzr was unrestricted but goes great its just that i hate the noise of the s&b cone filter so ive bought a standard air box trouble is even with a 92 main jet it still seems to be running weak, with the cone filter it had a 100 main, i would like to know from others how these bike are de restricted and why im having so much trouble putting the standard air box back on

Hi, when i first purchased my 2004 tzr 50, it was completely stock, just de-restricted.

i was running a 110 main jet and running just right, if not a tiny bit rich (better safe than sorry).

ofcourse, try a 110 and do a plug chop until you find the exact jetting size you need.

just be careful you don't run it weak!

i'm suprised you managed to get about 64 from it stock, mine only hit around 55! since then i've done much work to it, now hits nearer 85 on the flat :).

Hope this helps.

Alex

I believe the 2003 may have been a different model to the 2004, due to the 2004 model having a 16mm carburettor as standard, and a 2 litre reserve tank capacity, not the .71 litre.
