Any riders from Stoke on Trent in the UK here? Awww! Well ... good luck to you! Sadly, the two best biker pubs in Hanley don't exist anymore. The BlackHorse (or was it Whitehorse?), nope, def the Black ... was knocked down years ago, and The Starr is a 'hotel' now of sorts. Well, I am sure there are others around for you to find. It is great that you are starting so young!

Mike Legdon
Good luck with you test, I did my CBT last year with a friend from work, he got a brand new YBR for commuting to work on and still uses it now even after passing his A2, when your doing 110 mpg on roads that you can't go over 40mph on you can see his why he is resisting buying anything bigger. The only down side is that he's 6'2" and look an right T*T

Scythe
Well, strictly speaking I don't live in Stoke, I live in Alsager - South Cheshire area. I'm looking for some meets and good places to go, even though I probably will look like a tool on my 125 I got a brilliant deal from K2, near Stoke station. The bike was £1900, with insurance, CBT, road tax, helmet, 12mths breakdown cover included, so it was too good of a deal to not take

There are plenty of meets to be honest in and around Stoke / Congleton...sometimes they are even in 'The Sentinel' and as far as "looking a tool" ...everyone has to start somewhere mate...dunna worry thee sen! K2...thats where I puchased my lovely ride from...

Yeah but some people don't see it as Stoke, even if we do have a Stoke postcode If I have no problems with K2, I'll probably use those for my next bike in 12/18 months once I've passed my test. Can't wait to get rid of L plates, and I don't even have the bike yet!

Can't wait to get rid of L plates, and I don't even have the bike yet! Hmmm ... K2 the Yam dealer. I went there with my Yam xj750 to enquire as to whether I could get hold of a "YICS" tool to balance my carbs with (ok, it is a piece of about 9ml metal bar with special little thingies on it) as my bike is a YICS. The parts bloke told me that: a. my bike DID NOT need any special tool for balancing the carbs with and B: that i was mistaken and had been misinformed. I did indeed need a specialist YICS tool for setting up the carbs. that was two years ago, more recently, i contacted them with regards to getting some oil seals for the XJ, and they were nigh on useless with how they dealt with that query also, concluding that "as they did not know the year or model of my bike that they would have to order some pattern oil seals and hope that they would fit". Now, he could have said, "oh, I am sorry, we cannot help you because it is a grey import, try phoning Fowlers in Bristol, they know what they are talking about". Fortunately, a friend told us to give Fowlers a ring. So, i phoned Fowlers, and they put me onto Bat Motorcycles. And between the lovely Maria at Bat and Fowlers, we got it sorted out. I will not be using K2 for anything in future. So, be careful ...

I do believe that Alsager used to have a Cheshire postcode (probably CW as it is close to Crewe). This was up to the point that a local lord from that area realised that his mail reached him quicker if it came through the Stoke postal channels than the Crewe postal channels and demanded that Alsager get a SOT postcode instead of Crewe ... and, so, that is one of the urban myths behind that, although I have heard it is true and not mythical. I choose to view it as a myth, and then i cannot be accused of being 'green'

I wouldnt say that £1900 for all that was a good deal, it would only be a good deal if you had no one else to help you find and guy all that stuff cheaper than K2 sell it for. I have to find bikes for all sorts of people from 125's to supersports stuff and i get bettere deals than any bike shop can offer. You need some mates who know what they are doing.
