simondlh Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Hi all I turn the key to the off position and the engine still runs and starts! Any idea why? It's a new ignition
wild foamy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 did you check the wiring before you installed the new ignition?, on some ignitions it will have a temporary on for the ignition and headlights and a permanent on for the radio and other electrics so they will still have power when you turn the key off (hence why the radio in my dads van keeps resetting itself every time you stop ) also check for shorts and loose connections
simondlh Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Well a garage fitted the ignition but it's been wokring properly up until now, only today it's not turning off! It's been frosty so would this have caused something to seize up? How could it just stop working all of a sudden?
wild foamy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 that may be the problem then, any water in the ignition would complete the circuit enabling the current to flow even with the switch in the off position. get a hairdryer and dry the ignition out as much as you can, see if that helps
simondlh Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 That makes a lot of sense!! Thanks mate!
