I think the best thing to do when buying bike gear is buy the best you can afford. Try a few lids and buy the one that fits the best because if it doesn't fit right it will distract you. Get some good gloves because hands are very difficult to fix when damaged and get come good boots too. I wear cordura/kevlar things with good body armour in them and they are comfy to me. I'm a short arse so getting leather pants that fit properly is difficult but if I could find some I would have them.
