Started to strip down my front forks and discovered one of the top nuts has been previously over-tightened and butchered slightly. Its even more butchered now after trying to get it off, will probably end up cutting it off or something.

Anyhow, my question is where to get a new one from cheaply.

Bike is a 1999 yz250 and wondering what other makes/models used same part.

Are they the same as ones fitted to a honda cr125r 1998-2002?

Yamaha's part number is 5DH-23111-L0-00

so far been unable to cross ref part numbers between manufacturers.

Found a copy of KYB catalogue and had quick scan through.

Their part number for it is 110060001701 and it shows same part number fitted as standard equipment to a few other models and other makes so I think (hope!) the ones I found for sale on ebay for the honda will fit.

Yea can't wait to start riding again, its fun fixing bike with only left hand, can hold stuff with right one but can't lift, pull, push etc.

Just read in local paper today that the local disused quarry is supposedly getting closed off today, they've been trying for past 20 years to stop bikes using it so doubt it'll stop us all. killjoys!! :angry:

Well the honda items did fit so saved some hassle and a lot of money! :D

Another thing, before starting on the forks I'd read loads of online guides and everyone mentioned needing special tools and the job been loads of hassle. However, I've stripped mine down and replaced the dust seal, oil seal and both slide bushes and rebuilt the forks without needing any tools other than everyday spanners etc.

Seems that the specialist tools are only required if stripping down the internal damper and if its working fine then no need to. The tools can be made by yourself using basic workshop tools etc.

Did notice that one fork was down by about 300ml of oil so that would explain the 'interesting' handing :rolleyes:

Hi there Jon, ive found your thread incredibley helpful, i have found my self in the same predicament as you, would be kind enough to let me no where you found the fork caps? I too have a 1999 yz250 and the previous own has ruined the top bolts. May i ask also how much you have paid for them? cheers
