Like the title says I am new to this forum, I recently purchased a 1992 WR200 and have a very simple question that I hope someone can provide an answer to- what is the mixing ratio for the gas and oil? The Yamaha race book that came with the bike says 20:1 which seems extremely rich to me, but I'm used to dealing with oil injected machines so I could be wrong. Anybody?

20:1 seems like quite a lot of oil to run, most bikes I've had over years have been 30:1 - 32:1

Is it a haynes manual giving you the info? cos they are not always correct with the info.

rest assured that 32/1 is correct i even phoned a local motocross shop and they confirmed this as did an online motocross part specialist, unless you are breaking in a new piston or similar(even then its up for debate sometimes) you are better off using too much oil than not enough, ive been using 32/1 in my sons dtr and my own yz250 (similar to your engine) and never had a problem uk metric roughly 5litres petrol to 155mls two stroke and for peace of mind use semi synthetic silkolene or similar.

It is an actual Yamaha owner's service manual that I got the mixing ratio from; 24:1 using Yamalube R or 20:1 using Castrol A747, just seems to be very rich compared to all other two strokes I've had in the past. But then again I've melted down a couple of those motors, maybe its just an over-cautious recommendation to prevent warranty claims when the bikes were new?

Maybe just experiment with mixing fuel.....a gallon @ a time.......although 32:1 seems to be a standard/safe ratio to start with  ......

Make sure @ do a plug chop often to prevent running it too lean. ;)

if in any doubt about the correct amount of fuel to oil there is a handy online free conversion chart just type in ratio rite and all your amounts for varying oil to gas ratios are on a handy chart.
