I want to put a CDI ignition on my '74 TX500 but all that I can find are for XS650's. Are the points systems any different from each other?

I am looking at the Pamco Electronic Ignition Kit on http://www.mikesxs.net/mikesxs-electrical....category_id=2.1

Hi there the point plates on xs650 and tx were different but may fit you may want to browse the HPI web site you may find a better system. I have an HPI system on my FS1 it works fine !!!!

Regards Jim

Right now I think I want to stick with the Pamco system BUT I will definitely take a look at the HPI site for consideration.

Thanks!

Pointless ignition is what im looking for too...keep us updated in your progress

ignition isn't pointless, its needed to ignite the fuel/air mix

So what did you end up using? and how did everything work out? - curious because I am looking to do the same. Just sent Pete an email, and waiting for a response.

Has anyone noticed that the XS650 ignition system is run off the end of the camshaft and the TX/XS 500 is run from a secondary shaft running off the crankshaft the logistical differences between the 2 are large. years ago the light sourced ignition systems (which sort of retained the points, less burn,) could interchange but modern CD!/TCI would have loads of problems .... Sorry Drewps for replying to your post but it was one of the shorter ones !

...Unfortunately Newtronic went out of business. I've been looking for an electronic ignition for my XS500 for about a year now and have had no luck. <_<

the xs650 kit won't work as that engine is a 360 crank, regardless of fitting problems it just won't work.

Newtronic are still going in one form or another, but I used to be a dealer for them, and I remember the number of warranty claims being so high I binned them. Terrible set up that just kept breaking down.

You should have a look for XS 250/400 and see if that can't be made to fit.
