Hi all ,my 1st post of many lmao for advice on my R6 .I've been out of biking for hmmm a few years and only had two strokes in the past .

When is my R6 due the valve clearance check ? ,it's only just turned 14000 miles .

Next ( got the thick hat on here ) Went to check the engine oil level today .Unscrewed the top and no measure on it ,how the hell do you measure it ?.

Cheers all for any help .

Through the window !!!, not worked on an R6 but it will be somewhere around where the kickstart shaft used to live

I forgot the valve clearnce interval never seeing a manual for R6 but working off Yamaha principles I would guess 30k this distance was put in place on the birth of the FZ750 and I would guess it would follow with simular designed motors

Hi Jim

Thanks for the info and I have no history with the bike but she's lovely .

I've only owned the bike a couple of weeks .I'll have a look again tomorrow for a window but couldn't see one today .My local dealer said the valve clearance was due now  but I had my doubts which you have just confirmed .It might be the measure is missing of the oil cap ? but I can't see it broken of the cap .

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

you dont have a broken dipstick there will be a window to check the engine oil thro. With my early Yamaha expirence if you dont have a rattle@idle , idle doesnt dip when the lights are switched on the motor is running not to bad, just checked FZR600wc manual shows 15k for valve clearence adjustment, but just done one at 24k and the clearences where on the wide side of tollerence so let it ride !!! If you had an RD250/350/400 in the past the window will be where I say .. but if you are used to other Jap 2 strokes the position may be wrong ... so to define R/h side (clutch cover ... its the misty looking thing !!!

Regards Jim
