Kirkie
Anyone recommend a good disc lock for the YZF R125 please. I like the look of XENA, but tried the template and none looked like they fitted...
Ttaskmaster
Get one where the key looks something like this; I think Abus do some like this. Make sure the shackle is shrouded, too.
unfazed
Anyone recommend a good disc lock for the YZF R125 please. I like the look of XENA, but tried the template and none looked like they fitted... It is nice if you have no alarm to have an alarmed disk lock. It also saves having the silly peice of plastic up to the handlebars to remind you to remove it. If you should forget and move the bike the alarm goes off. Are u sure the xena verssion wont fit ? edg3
I've been using the Motrax Vishas for a couple of weeks, fits well and is a solid/decent lock. Though it doesn't fit under the seat so you'll need to put it in a backpack/seat bag if you have anything like that (mine goes in my backpack). Mason
I HATE DISC LOCKS WITH A PASSION!! My boss has one and I cant tell you how many times I've taken his front wheel assembley just to get his lock off. I'm sorry but anything that comes with 5 keys just in case you lose one can't be good. Not to mention if you're like me and you like to go out and go to a pub or party or bar and you use it and you forget you have it on it can and WILL cause MAJOR DAMAGE. So I hate them. Ttaskmaster
I HATE DISC LOCKS WITH A PASSION!! - snip - you use it and you forget you have it on it can and WILL cause MAJOR DAMAGE. So I hate them. I hear this from so many people.... Including my girlfriend!! Do you keep forgetting your front door key, too? I'm sorry, but remembering to take the disc lock off is just a simple matter of habit. You approach the bike, you blip the alarm off, you bend down and take off the disclock. I do it without thinking and have never had a problem. Get an alarmed one, if you want a reminder. Use a reminder cable too, if you have to!! One tip is to put the disc lock behind the caliper and right up against it. I am assuming you pull forward. If you're going to start by reversing out, put it right in front of the caliper. This way, even if you do forget to remove it, you will only travel a mere couple of inches, rather than several feet before the thing catches. There will be no damage, no throw-offs, no drops etc.
Mason
Not all of us have have alarms on them. And when you have certian activities that you need to get done quick or ride in a pack, you will probably get left and have to play catch up. Because I know if YOUR ass aint ready, YOUR ass gets left. No if ands or buts about it. It takes 15 days to start a true habit. So if you want one get one. I will never have one. Just leave your bike in gear and lock the front trees. Duh they come with them on it. no need to buy a bunch of extra crap. Oh and to the guy that made the comment about the house key, I don't lock my doors. Due to the fact that where I live EVERYONE knows who I am and What I will do if you "break in to my house" I live in Georgia and all you have to do is step on my property and I can drop you like a bad habit and say that you threatened me. I love that law.
Ttaskmaster
Not all of us have have alarms on them. Myself included. Mine is just a disclock. And when you have certian activities that you need to get done quick or ride in a pack, you will probably get left and have to play catch up. It takes me around seven seconds to remove my disclock, put it in my pocket and zip the pocket shut. That's all. Speaking from the perspective of someone who rides in groups, in a country where most self-respecting bikers still take the time to put on helmet, gloves and maybe glasses (sun or otherwise), seven flipping seconds isn't much of a delay. If you need to urgently hop on the bike and blast away like a fighter pilot launching into active combat, then either you're something like a police officer or you're partaking of some activity you really ought not to be.... in which case it probably doesn't apply to you anyway. Because I know if YOUR ass aint ready, YOUR ass gets left. No if ands or buts about it. If your riding buddies can't even wait seven fecking seconds for you to unlock your bike, then they're tossers and you need a group of politer people. It takes 15 days to start a true habit. 23, if you want to get petty about it. Duh they come with them on it. no need to buy a bunch of extra crap. What, every single one of them? Bet you I can find 10 brands of disclock that don't come with them, excluding the ones I own!! Oh and to the guy that made the comment about the house key, I don't lock my doors. Ttaskmaster
Fork Locks? Must be what we call a Steering Lock. That still only takes a few seconds..... Leaving bike in gear is common, especially if you have to park uphill. As for getting left, guess you'd better make sure you're ready, then.... Us, we leave together, we arrive together. It's about the company, rather than anything else. Then again, we're a bit older than you

Then again, we're a bit older than you I have an oxford disc lock with a key the same as the one you posted. key stays roudn my neck when im out and the lock takes seconds to put on and take off. As for getting left behind - i'd be pretty pissed if a group i was with left me - but then again i cant imagine it would ever happen - its an unwritten rule amongst bikers and i thought it was wordlwide.....seems i was wrong. Ttaskmaster
The lock I posted is a Disc Detainer lock. I can pick open pin cylinders, tubular locks and even some dimple locks, using just a pair of paperclips. If I can do it in reasonable time, so can thieves and the electric pick guns are getting cheaper... It is 'possible' to do the same to Disc Detainers, but generally you need a specialist tool and it takes a lot longer. It's actually quicker to break into your house, search the whole place to find and use your spare key!!
Moderator Goff Posted September 25, 2008 Moderator Share Posted September 25, 2008 If your memory is so shot to bits you cant remember to take OFF your disc lock then how about one of these: HERE
