hi everyone.

ive got a steering lock on ym Yamaha DT50 MX (1990) but dont have a key for it, how do i get it off as it looks like its made as part of the frame. timpsons quoted me £187 to get it taken out, and reprofiled for a new key so it would be cheaper to get a whole new steering lock methink

Steering locks are at best a mild inconvenience to a theif, i don't bother with mine at all, spend your pennies on a half decent padlock with a long enough shackle to go round some spokes and something solid like the brake torque arm, fits in your jacket pocket and will inconvenience any prospective thief far more than the puny steering lock.

Obviously nothing is perfect and a big lock and chain is better but sometimes thats not as easy or convenient as we would like.

Well you get what you pay for but that will be far better than the steering lock.

HOW MUCH?????!!!!!!!!!

Fuck me...... I could do it myself for less than £100.

You yourself could learn to impression a lock off the net, file a £2 key blank down and make your own.

Get a padlock and chain it to something immovable.

Use something like an Abloy lock with a disc detainer mechanism.

Far better use of cash!!
