Cymraeg_Atodeg Posted September 11, 2008 Share Posted September 11, 2008 Hello all, I am joining this forum to hopefully get some information about R6's, what is best for them and hints a tips on anything from general up-keep, to best parts and servicing centres. I don't even have a bike or a bike license yet But, I am doing my theory soon (hopefully) and doing my DAS on or around Spring 2009. Anyway, my first bike (and this might be a bad idea) will hopefully be a '08 R6. The reason for this choice of bike is I intend to tour Europe with some friends I have that already have bikes, but, I want a bike that’s fun when I am at home too. stealthr6 Posted September 11, 2008 Share Posted September 11, 2008 for your first bike i wouldnt recommend an 08 model, i would go for something a little older. by all means get an r6 after you pass i have one as my first "proper" road bike and they are just lovely to ride and learn on! I suppose that is true, but, I am intending to use this bike a lot, so I am looking for manufacturers warranty, reliability and the new R6 engine. That said, when you get to some of the decent sweeping roads in europe you're gonna have a lot of fun. Plenty of good deals on last years models, especially with 0% finance if that's the way ya you wanna go. Whatever bike you get, get out and ride it and enjoy. Which model is best for you will depend in part on your size, height, weight, as there have been some key design changes over the past few years, not all mechanical so do try before you buy, it's surprising what effect some subtle changes can have. They raised the seat and dropped the bars for the 08 model, so not the best choice for short folks, or for touring. Engine-wise, anything from 03 onwards is fine for mid-range, but '55 reg on even better. Why not go for an 06 model, new shape, bit less extreme position wise, great engine, 'upside down' forks (very responsive!), cheaper to buy and insure? Whatever you choose, have fun, just don't go racing your mates who have been riding for years, you'll end up in the hedge! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Good luck with your test. regards, Druid I found the seat quit comfy when I sat on it in the bike showroom. I was on it for about 30mins talking to the sales person. But, if all else fails, I can strap a pillow to the seat, lol. I am looking to either buy the bike out-right in cash or try to do the finance deal on an '08 onwards bike... I didnt find the '08 model I sat on too bum high/head low, but, I am 5'9, so I wonder if that makes all the difference. I was hoping to get an '08 model onwards because it has the throttle chip which gives the bike a better full range grunt (I have been told.) I am 13 stone, so, is that too heavy for the 'little' '08 model? I would never race my friends, I am not that crazy! dudman Posted September 15, 2008 Share Posted September 15, 2008 i got 08 r6 wouldn't recommend it for touring! as when i was running in, crusing around i was getting stiff back (might be i am 6 foot) trying to sit upright with just finger tips on throttle, i went round left hander throttle opened as my arm extened, throwing me back and almost falling off!!! would of thought i would learn but i still do it round town cos its only purpose is going stupidly fast but saying that it is an awsome bike you will have alot of fun on it, would recommend getting double bubble screen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
