The last thing you want is points and a fine, Then theres the other side of the coin...what if youre involved in an accident and you get injured, do you expect your (or anyone else's) insurance company to pay out compensation, they might just say that the tyre affected the bikes handling on that wet tarmac when you braked and skidded. Ouch mate... I'm sure I'm quite a bit older than you with max. no claims and for that I get fully comp on pretty much any big car BUT BUT BUT, if you think you're being done... But if you think about it, average biker dosnt do an average 3500 miles a week do they.... There are some very good knobblies around that are road legal, michelin do a Enduro Comp 3 that is legal, but to be fair it's only just. I had a 'chat' with a VOSA inspector about it, he cliamed it wasn't due to the ratio of tread to the overall tyre, in the end the tyre has passed homologation so there isn't much they can do abou it.
