sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I changed the bars on my bike and now the gears rev too much before kicking in. Is the cable supposed to be taught or something? Help please.
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 Sounds like youve either routed the cable incorrectly, or the bars are significantly wider / higher than the ones you replaced. Try to re route the cable so its not so tight!
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Thankyou ill give it a try. Dont mean to sound ungrateful but it seems to me its almost the opposite. Can the cable be too loose?

sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Yam rxs 100 but keep it to yourself. (I took stuff apart and didnt really pay attention to what I was doing)
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 Would i be right in thinking that the cable comes out of the throttle as a single cable, then goes into a tube where it splits into two cables, one for the oil pump and one for the carb slide?
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Sorry was watching Big Brother... Jus checked and you are quite correct.
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 Sorry was watching Big Brother... My god you really do need help Its revving its nuts off now youve rebuilt it? are the new bars wider than the old ones? Does it rev more when you move the bars from lock to lock?
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Ok..... The new bars are kinda wider.....er......check the pics on "what do you reckon" thread..its easier to explain.
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 What about the other two questions
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Oh sorry... Not really revving too much. Revs in a straight line. I mean its quite rideable and 1st and 2nd are worse.(2nd is kick ass on these...usually anyway)
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 Im getting confused with this now, i thought that it was revving too much Cant you be more precise with whats wrong Revs in a straight line?...dont understand I mean its quite rideable and 1st and 2nd are worse.(2nd is kick ass on these...usually anyway?...dont understand this either Not really revving too much.?...Thought it was Its been a long day, c'mon
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Sorry I am trying..... The best way I can describe it is like when a clutch is wearing out on a car. You get the revs before the gear engages whereas is should be at the same time. Does that make sense? (and I do appreciate your patience and help)

(and I do appreciate your patience and help) All this time i'm thinking its a throttle, engine revving fault! OK with the bike in neutral can you rev the engine as normal and twist the bars from lock to lock without the revs increasing?
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 Just tried. Yes. so there is absolutely nothing wrong with the throttle cable, it does the job you want it to ? But when you put the bike in gear and let the clutch out, there is a delay before the bike moves forward, which results in the engine revving up too much?
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Yes thats it. It happens with 1st,2nd and a little less each time down through the gears. (reverse has stopped working altogether...Joke)
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 Yes thats it. It happens with 1st,2nd and a little less each time down through the gears. (reverse has stopped working altogether...Joke) Right, there should be a little free play at the clutch lever before it begins to pull the cable check it with the bars at left lock, centre, and right lock
sparkmeister Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 (How the hell do you know all this?) Its a little tighter on left lock.
Moderator Airhead Posted August 1, 2008 Moderator Posted August 1, 2008 So long as theres free play wherever the bars are, thats OK You say left lock is a little tighter. do you mean its difficult to pull the lever or theres no free play or what?
